Young Research Groups

Die Young Research Groups werden vom Land Oberösterreich im Rahmen der Forschungsförderungsinitiative STAR (Step Ahead Through Research) gefördert. Die Abwicklung des Programms erfolgt durch den FWF.

Mit den Young Research Groups soll die Attraktivität Oberösterreichs für wissenschaftliche High Potentials gesteigert werden. In der ersten Ausschreibung ist die Johannes Kepler Universität Linz antragsberechtigt.

Themen der Ausschreibung:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Medical Engineering


Zielgruppe:

Exzellente ForscherInnen aus aller Welt, die in einem der beiden Themenbereiche der Ausschreibung an der Johannes Kepler Universität (JKU) Linz eine Forschungsgruppe einrichten und sich dort langfristig etablieren wollen

Zielsetzung:

  • Stärkung des Forschungsstandortes Oberösterreich
  • Steigerung der Attraktivität der Universitäten und Forschungseinrichtungen in Oberösterreich für exzellente junge Forschungstalente aus aller Welt
  • Gewinnung junger Forschungstalente durch Eröffnung langfristiger Karriereperspektiven


Anforderungen:

  • mindestens 2 bis maximal 8 Jahre Forschungserfahrung nach der Promotion (Überschreitungen sind nur entsprechend der in den Antragsrichtlinien festgelegten Ausnahmen möglich)
  • außergewöhnlicher internationaler track record
  • Nachweis der wissenschaftlichen Selbstständigkeit
  • Unterstützung der Forschungsstätte für eine langfristige Karriereperspektive


Dauer:

8 Jahre (2 Förderungsperioden à 4 Jahre)


Höhe:

max. 1,6 Mio. € (1,0 Mio. € für die ersten 4 Jahre und 0,6 Mio. € für die zweiten 4 Jahre – abhängig vom Ergebnis einer Zwischenevaluierung)


Antragstellung:

Die Antragstellung erfolgt durch die JKU Linz gemeinsam mit einer von der Universität als GruppenleiterIn der jeweiligen Young Research Group nominierten Person. Anträge können während des Ausschreibungszeitraumes eingereicht werden:

  • Ausschreibungsbeginn: 12. November 2018
  • Ausschreibungsende: 30. April 2019 (Datum des Poststempels)


Vergabe:

Es erfolgt eine internationale Begutachtung. Die zuständigen Organe des Landes Oberösterreich entscheiden auf Basis der Empfehlungen einer Expertenjury.

Geplant ist die Vergabe von je einer Young Research Group für die beiden Themenbereiche.

The Young Research Groups are funded by the State of Upper Austria as part of the STAR (Step Ahead Through Research) research initiative. FWF is responsible for the administration of the programme.

The Young Research Groups are designed to increase the attractiveness of Upper Austria to high-potential researchers. In the first call, Johannes Kepler University Linz is eligible to apply.

Topics of the call:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Medical engineering


Target group:

Excellent researchers from all over the world who want to set up a research group at Johannes Kepler University Linz on one of the two topics of the call and establish themselves there on a long-term basis.


Aims:

  • To strengthen Upper Austria as a research location
  • To increase the attractiveness of Upper Austrian universities and research institutions to young high-potential researchers from all over the world
  • To acquire talented young researchers by opening up long-term career prospects


Requirements:

  • At least 2 but no more than 8 years of research experience after finishing the doctorate (the period may only be extended for the exceptions outlined in the application guidelines)
  • Outstanding international track record
  • Proof of research independence
  • Research institution’s offer of long-term career prospects


Duration:

8 years (two four-year funding periods)

Amount:

Max. €1.6 million (€1 million for the first 4 years and €0.6 million for the second 4 years – depending on the outcome of the interim evaluation)

Submitting an application:

The application is submitted by JKU Linz together with a person nominated by the university to be the group leader of the respective Young Research Group. Applications can be submitted during the application period:

  • Start of the call: 12 November 2018
  • End of the call: 30 April 2019 (date of postmark)


Allocation of funding:

An international review shall be conducted. The responsible bodies of the State of Upper Austria shall decide based on the recommendations of an expert jury.

It is planned to allocate funding to one Young Research Group for each of the topics of the call.
