Automobil-Cluster

On 6 May 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30, SAAM Austria, in cooperation with AustriaTech, will host a webinar as part of the ‘Internationale Kooperationen’ series, focusing on the topic of ‘Testing and Validation of CAVs – European Scenario Dataspace and Safety Validation Framework’.

This series promotes knowledge transfer between the Austrian community and international partners, as well as international cooperation (e.g. joint projects at EU level), and strengthens the international positioning of SAAM Austria and its stakeholders. Through contributions from international guest speakers and joint discussions, the aim is to identify synergies and connections with the presented topics and initiatives, along with potential future activities for Austrian stakeholders.

Webinar description

In the webinar we explore the topic of advancing the safety, validation, and interoperability of connected and automated vehicles in Europe through collaborative, data-driven approaches. This will be discussed on the basis of the Horizon Europe projects SYNERGIES and CERTAIN.

SYNERGIES is building a federated European Scenario Dataspace to support the testing and validation of connected and automated vehicles. In this webinar, Jordi Pont - Project Coordinator at Applus+ IDIADA currently leading SYNERGIES initiative - will explore why keeping scenario databases fragmented across national silos is a risk Europe cannot afford, and how moving towards a shared, interoperable and federated ecosystem is key to staying competitive globally. A central part of that vision is ensuring scenarios are trustworthy and properly linked to ODDs, so they can be traced back to real validation and type-approval needs.

CERTAIN (Resilient and Continuous Safety Assurance Methodology for CCAM and its HMI Components) is building on the foundation laid by SUNRISE and SYNERGIES and will be presented in the webinar by Oana Moldovan, CERTAIN Project coordinator and R+D Senior Engineer at ADAS. As automated vehicles evolve from concept to reality, CERTAIN wants to answer the critical question: How do we ensure these intelligent systems remain safe throughout their lifetime? This Horizon Europe project (2025-2028) brings together 24 partners across 11 countries to create a continuous, harmonized and human-centric safety validation framework.

CERTAIN is addressing CCAM's most complex challenges: ensuring human-machine interfaces support safe interaction during critical moments; validating AI-based decision-making with data-driven methodologies; testing V2X communication in mixed connected traffic; and pioneering continuous monitoring after deployment—because safety doesn't end at type approval. The project will conclude with the validation of the defined methodologies through 11 real CCAM systems covering different types of vehicles, ODDs and SAE levels, from L2 to L4, following UNECE NATM multi-pillar approach.
